The role of Ready Made Garments (RMG) sector in Bangladesh economy is remarkable. The sector rapidly attained high importance in terms of employment, foreign exchange earnings and its contribution to GDP. In this huge industry there are mainly two types of motors used, clutch motors and servo motors. 80% of these motors are Clutch motors. The problems of these motors are- no speed control, low starting torque, energy loss through heat and motor burn etc. On the other hand, clutch motor runs at maximum speed during no load condition. A stand by position during this time can save energy enormously. This paper compares between sewing industry’s existing machine systems and Variable Frequency Drive implemented systems. It also presents speed control of single phase AC motor by using Variable Frequency Drive (VFD). The VFD mechanism provides an approach for variation in speed of AC motors. The paper aims to provide real field test results in determining that the system containing a VFD performs with greater efficiency.
